DUOWEIMetal Building Envelope Systems

Structural Steel Suppliers

A structural steel supplier for industrial buildings is judged on the system it delivers: the frame, its connections, and the way the frame and envelope are coordinated. This page sets out what to ask when comparing suppliers on that basis.

Buying a steel structure system

Buyers of steel structure systems usually compare suppliers on scope rather than on a single component: whether design, manufacture and installation are offered together, how the frame and envelope are coordinated, and how the inquiry, confirmation and delivery stages are organised.

Please confirm minimum order quantity, supply scope and lead time in your inquiry, and describe the building plan and the construction sequence you are working to. This site does not publish order or lead-time figures for steel structure systems.

Frames, bracing and junctions

A frame is more than a set of columns and beams. Bracing keeps the frame stable, connections join the members, and the junctions where the frame meets the envelope decide how the wall and roof are fixed. Each of these points should be described in the inquiry, because they affect both the frame and the envelope that hangs from it.

If your building has large open areas, tall walls or heavy roof-mounted equipment, say so early. Those conditions change the frame discussion, and they are best raised before any member or connection is described in detail.
